Beloved public servant and community leader, Don McRae passed away.  He began an illustrious career with the city of St. Petersburg, after retiring from the military with a distinguished service record.  Starting in the Police department as a Community Improvement Coordinator in 1972, he also served in law enforcement as an Executive Aide I, started and managed the Aviation Unit as Public Safety Aviation Coordinator and was later promoted to Chief of the Training Division.  In 1979, he started his service in City Hall as Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager of Public Safety and Support Services, Interim City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and Deputy City Administrator before retiring from public service as the Chief of Staff in 2001.

During his tenure here, Mr. McRae paved the way for many of the city's African-American Administrators.  Among many other civic achievements, he also founded the local chapter of the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, serving as its first President in 1983.
